Hurricane Policy
The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd holds the care of our parish family and community of utmost importance. Everyone should use their best judgment with regard to driving under current weather conditions. We will observe the following with regard to hurricanes:
When Lake Wales is under a Hurricane Watch
(A tropical cyclone containing winds 74 mph or higher poses a possible threat within 48 hours.)
Good Shepherd will cancel activities and programs other than worship services.
When Lake Wales is under a Hurricane Warning
(A tropical cyclone containing winds 74 mph or higher is expected within 36 hours.)
Good Shepherd will cancel all worship services, activities and programs.
After a Hurricane
Good Shepherd will endeavor to check on our members and resume worship and other activities as soon as possible, in compliance with civil authorities’ orders and announcements.
If Good Shepherd is inaccessible or unsafe due to physical damage or downed power lines, etc., we will share news and updates, including alternative worship space if necessary, as quickly as possible via email, text and postings on our website and Facebook page.
A Tropical Storm Watch or Warning
Good Shepherd will continue all worship services, activities and programs except as communicated on a case by case basis.
